It's possible one of the OSI programmers themselves nullified the function. You yourself said that the original 2.0.8n client compiled with optimizations to the assembly code... it could be that this function was wiped for the sake of optimization.

I'm probably waaay late to the party, but try . Seems to be unpatched.

If not, has analysis of the complete function given you enough to reconstruct the code?

To the best of my knowledge a original version has not been obtained. The section of code that was modified/removed could be guessed at, but can't really be analysed :/

My guess is that it was a function call.
