Good post, I was unable to get the demo working before until Batlin explained to fix the registries to me.

I tried this as with Demo and Demo+ and I still get that error 64bit win7 also I followed the directions about the right targ files no spaces in uo.cfg etc

If you can't seem to get it, try the UO:98 installer. It will install the regular demo and the UO:98 mod
