I'm going to explain to you what steps you need to do, to make the old UO tutorial work again. The original UO and the Second Age game came with a tutorial. This is a directory inside the game directory containing TGA files. The original UO was shipped with 24-bit Targa files whereas the Second Age CD contains 16-bit Target files. The demo client requires the 24-bit ones.
The tutorial will only be shown if you create a new character. This requires UoDemo+ 14 or higher and the ManualLogon option.
But there is more, there is a bug in the parsing of UO.CFG: if the CdRomDataPath entry contains a space, the game will not find the tutorial.
You can download a RAR file containing a CdRomDataPath directory with the correct Tutorial files. Download this RAR file and extract the contents to your C:\ root (or any other location). What is important is that your target path MUST NOT contain any space!
The RAR file also contains an empty map0.mul file, this file is required. Deleting it will result in an error message saying that the demo can't find your installation. Blame OSI, not me. Thank you.
Edit UO.CFG and point CdRomDataPath to the extracted directory. For example, if you extracted to the C root; "CdRomDataPath=c:\CdRomDataPath".
